Knighton Community Centre Management Committee has announced that its Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 21st in the Centre's bar. The centre, a registered charity, run entirely by volunteers and dependent almost exclusively on income from hirings for its survival, has recently been successful in obtaining Big Lottery funding to begin planning a major refurbishment of its facilities with the aim that it can become a "Community Hub" where a range of local services and organisations can be based.
The Chairperson of the Management Committee Karen Plant said "We are entering a very exciting stage in the history of the centre but also a very challenging one for those of us keeping the venue open and dealing with the ever increasing number of bookings. Now, even more than ever before, there is an urgent need for energetic, committed and talented members of the community to join us, either on the mangement committee or, equally valuably, as a volunteer helper". All members of the local community who want to find out more about the centre, and particularly those who feel they can contribute to the running of the centre, either as a committee member or a volunteer helper, are invited to come along to the AGM on July 21st at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available. Anyone wishing to put their name forward for election to the new committee should telephone 07751221487 or email knightoncomm@gmail.com.
