Tickets are now on sale at Tower House Gallery, Knighton for what promises to be a great gig in the centre's bar by the highly acclaimed singer Keith James.  James has performed his interpretations of Cohen's greatest musical masterpieces in venues of all sizes across the UK and now Knighton gets a chance to experience his show up close.  Space is of course limited so advance booking is advised.  If you can't get to the Tower House Gallery, buy tickets online here.

After a weekend with two big parties, a YFC pantomime and two karate sessions, finally got rubbish cleared and tables and chairs back in place literally minutes before the art classes started this morning.   Phew!
And so a new week starts... Today it's art all day and then badminton club tonight. Tuesday cooking class in morning, Slimming World and fitness classes in the afternoon and evening (I must go along one week and see what an "Insanity" session actually looks like!). Wednesday there's boxercise and kettlebells in the reynolds Room and badminton in the hall. Thursday leg club and of course karate. Friday we begin weekly afternoon sessions with Mid Powys MIND after which we have to quickly get the reynolds Room set up for the screening of "Mr Turner" - sure to be a packed house...
And so we get to another weekend. This time there's the Community Market on Saturday morning March 14th with live music in the cafe, while as usual there's karate in the Reynolds Room. Then a quick transformation of the hall is required in time for the Knighton Silver Band Spring Concert, with the Rhayader Male Voice Choir guesting.
And the weekend rounds off with a "Green Cabaret" in the bar from 8pm on March 15th.
Running the Community Centre really is a 7-day-a-week commitment - and if not quite 52 weeks a year (Christmas week is usually quiet apart for occasional vandalism) then very nearly. If anyone out there fancies the challenge of helping to keep open the town's most important and heavily used community resource, you'd be made very welcome!

Last Friday's party. Where else could you bring your car to the party?

Another quiet weekend...

Heard the one about how it's a shame that the Community Centre isn't used more?
Well, this weekend we have a party for 400+ on tonight (Friday), then a very quick tidy-up before karate in the Reynolds Room 10am Saturday morning and again 2.30pm to 4.00.  Hardly will the karate class be out before a party sets up in the Reynolds Room and bar for Saturday evening.  Then all that has to be tidied up and a quick clean through done Sunday morning in time for the Knighton YFC to set up for a panto show on Sunday afternoon.   By Sunday night hundreds of local people, including lots of children,  will have been through the doors to enjoy themselves or take part in a leisure activity.  And it's 2 or 3 volunteers and our cleaners who will turn it all around - and will then set to and make the whole centre ready to open its doors on Monday morning bright and early for another Community Support working week, plus art classes from 10am Monday in the Reynolds Room.
It is a massive undertaking to keep the centre open, sometimes with words of support from members of the local community, sometimes with less helpful comments.  It's about to become even more massive as the small group of volunteers who run the centre on the local community's behalf confront the problems and issues involved with a planned Big Lottery-funded refurbishment.
So next time someone tells you that they don't have much on at the Community Centre, you know how big a joke that is...
