Knighton Rock Nite - Take 1

4/28/2017

A group of local rock fans have been meeting together over recent weeks with the aim of launching a regular live rock night in the newly refurbished bar at the Community Centre.  An eye-catching line up has now been put together for the launch night, which has been set for July 1st, and online tickets are now available from We Got Tickets - follow the link on our "What's On" page to go to their website.
Headliner on July 1st is top blues outfit The Troy Redfern Band,  guaranteeing a great night of slide guitar, driving rock and gutsy blues singing.  Supporting them there's heavy rocking trio Conspiracy of Kings, psycho-punk from Ledbury-based Pablo Alto and Knightonians Shop Front Heroes.   Things kick off at 7.30pm with the bar open late (sorry but it's under-18s only).  Tickets in advance are a snip at £4, available online by clicking on the link below or by heading for AJ Pugh Butcher in Broad St, Knighton, or it's £5 - still very much a snip - on the night if available.

May 20th is the day when the Community Centre really can be said to be back in action. As well as the Gardening Day, with a host of activities running from 10am to 5pm, from 8pm the bar will be the venue for some truly outstanding Americana from duo Anna and Elizabeth. They have stunned audiences at folk festivals all around the world and now it's Knighton's turn. Doors open 8pm and the duo are brilliantly supported by Seattle-based roots singer and guitarist Eli West. Tickets are £12 from Courtyard Antiques and the Workhouse Gallery, Presteigne or by phoning 01544-350407 or 01547-528315. For another £10 you can buy a combined ticket that, as well as Anna & Elizabeth, also lets you into a show by Foghorn Stringband at Castlering Wood, LD8 2PB, on the next day.

Dog training

Diana Lavers (Quabbs Canine Capers) recently reported back that the The Drill Hall was a first class venue for the recent dog training sessions.  Four groups regularly attended the classes comprising of not only a very varied selection of dog breeds but a very varied age of owners!  The training was not just about traditional ‘sit-stay’ training: the dogs also enjoyed learning about agility, games, and scentwork, all designed to improve their every day behaviour and to deepen the bond with their owners.  A varied selection of agility equipment was bought in for each session including a flyball box trainer, and the sessions always ended with an exciting scentwork session.

For the summer months the training sessions will continue at the training paddocks near Beguildy.  For more information visit the website www.quabbscaninecapers.co.uk.
