The Electro Swing night postponed from earlier this month has now been re-scheduled for October 12th.  The buffet originally planned has now been dropped but so has the price.  Also the organisers are promising lots of extras such as dancing lessons, at least one live band,  juggler and burlesque act (!).  Early Bird tickets are cheap cheap cheap and are on sale now from Knighton Music Centre, the Tower House Gallery and HERE.  It sounds a bit special so try to be there if you like dancing.

A night of music with the Palestinian youth group ends their visit to Knighton

The visit by the Palestinian youth group concluded on Tuesday evening, Aug 20th, with a rather special evening of food, warm community spirit and music at the Community Centre.  The Town Crier Derrick Price and Mayor Roger Bright were on hand to supply local colour and a speech or two.  Afterwards there was music and dance in the main hall.
The group is by now getting to know their new hosts in Worcester on the next leg of their UK trip.  You can follow their adventures on the Common Ground 2013 blog - just follow this link.

Visit by young Palestinians under way!

8/17/2013

After spending hours of their first day stuck in the tailback from an accident on the M25, Knighton's young Palestinian visitors finally arrived at their destination at 10pm Friday and immediately sat down to a big dinner set out in the Reynolds Room.  Most of us would have been exhausted after such a journey but they seemed raring to go and though many of us in town had made up our spare bedrooms aware that the dodgy weather forecast for today would put many of the group off the camp site set up for them, the group decision was for sleeping under canvas (or whatever modern tents are made of).
Today the group enjoyed a morning of larking about by and in the River Teme, then when the rain started it was time for a music workshop in the Community Centre followed by dinner and then back to the camp site, just in time for the grey skies to break and a lovely sunset.
Follow the group's experiences on their blog at http://2013commonground.blogspot.co.uk/, where there should be lots of photos of the trip as the days go by.

Knighton and the Community Centre welcome young Palestinians next weekend

Next week, Knighton will play host to a group of young people from Palestine. Fourteen  men and women, whose ages range from 13 to 24 and who live in the West Bank or Gaza, will arrive on Friday 16th August for a 6-day visit. Some will stay with local people while others will camp out.

Social events, games, music workshops at the Community Centre, walks and other activities have been planned and the organisers are encouraging local young people to come along, join in, and make new friends. The Palestinians will find out about life in the Welsh Marches and they will tell of their life in Palestine today.

On Tuesday 20th August there will be a social evening, open to all, from 7.00 pm onwards in the Reynolds Room at the Community Centre. This will include music, singing and dancing featuring the Teme Valley Ceilidh Band, the Radnor Improvisors and singer Dr. Abdullah Abu Helal. The young people themselves will also perform a musical presentation.

The visitors leave on Wednesday 21st and will visit Worcester, Oxford, Northampton and London before returning home. Local people who want to help and/or socialise with the visitors can contact Camilla on 01547 520929 for further information.
