Gardening Day programme of activities

Knighton Community Centre, reopened this week as its 6 month refurbishment approaches its end, invites the public to check out its new facilities at its Gardening Day this Saturday, May 20th.The event will bring together lots of garden-related stalls and activities over the day running from 10am to 5pm. and visitors will be able to come and go throughout that time to visit town-wide events such as TVEG organised guided walks, allotments visits and an open day at the “Men’s Shed”.
The event will be opened by William Watkins of Radnor Hills Water, valued supporters of the centre, having funded the main hall’s new moveable dividing wall.Demonstrations, talks and Q and A sessions follow on subjects such as wildlife gardening, bee keeping, permaculture, hanging baskets, square metre gardening and flower arranging, while children are catered for with morning and afternoon workshops in seed sowing and making model butterflies.The youngsters are also invited to create their own “Garden on a Plate” to bring along on the day for a competition.
The grown ups will be able to have a go at stone carving, bring along gardening toolsto be sharpened and browse ornamental gardenstonework, benches and lots of plants for sale.Highlights of the afternoon will be a presentation by Stephen Lloyd, Head Gardener at Hergest Croft, followed by a “Gardeners’ Question Time” with a panel of experts on hand to offer responses on a range of thorny gardening issues from the audience.
Entry is just £4 for adults, while accompanied under-16s have free admission.A café will run throughout the day with bar in the afternoonand it goes without saying that, whatever the weather outside, the Gardening Day will be warm and dryin the Community Centre hall.
