Friday February 14th was perhaps the climax of the wettest, stormiest period in history. Not a good day to have scheduled local amateur group the Little Big Band to play a fundraiser crucial for the community centre's survival.
In the event, all the ban members made it through the floods and a very enthusiastic crowd packed the hall to welcome them. To all of them the volunteers of the community centre management committee say thank you. A thank you is also due to David Miller, proprietor of the town's community market's ever-popular cafe, who donated potted daffodils to decorate the tables. Committee members worked hard over the days leading up to the gig producing a lovely selection of soups. While the income from tickets, raffle and bar has still to be worked out, we can say that the night was a great financial success as well as an artistic one. Let's be honest: after weeks of rain, grey skies and mud, it's been hard to raise a smile recently. So an event next Tuesday at the Community Centre may be just the ticket.
Finn Glendon, who it seems knows his subject, will be running a "Laughter Workshop" at 7.30 in the Reynolds Room. Yes, you read correctly. The workshop lasts a little over an hour and entry is by donation. |
