Another quiet weekend coming up...

Crazily busy weekend coming up at the Community Centre. On Friday night there's a Charity dance with music by Curtis Magee and Andy Morris- all proceeds go to Riding for the Disabled and tickets are £10 from Janet Thomas on 01547-530203.

On Saturday morning it's the twice-monthly Community Market, this time including a free barbecue offering samples of lamb and pork in homemade bread, and other tasty offerings, all from the market's stallholders.

Then, with hardly a pause for breath, we set up as a checkpoint and food and rest stop for the 4 day King Offa's Dyke running race, which starts in Chepstow on the 23rd and passes through Knighton over Saturday night on the way to Prestatyn! The organisers expect finishers in Prestatyn on the 27th... If I was taking part that'd be 27th December, not September.  For more on this event, check out

And to finish a full-on weekend the monthly auction kicks off at around 1.00pm on Sunday. Phone Neil on 07539-428479 for details and to put items into the auction.
And all of this Community Centre activity is coordinated by a tiny group of volunteers beavering away in the background, mostly cheerfully... except when Knightonians tell us that nothing ever happens at the Comm!

Hardly has one Flicks season finished at the Community Centre than another one is with us.  Last Friday a full house in the Reynolds Room enjoyed "Black Mountain Poets", a low-budget gem of a comedy with a local-ish setting. Next up is "Florence Foster Jenkins", starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.  continuing the comedy theme.  Entrance is still set at £4 and doors open at 7pm.

Community Centre committee welcomes Police Commissioner

On Tuesday September 6th members of the management committee of Knighton Community Centre welcomed Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn, who was visiting town specially to see the plans for the centre’s transformation into a Community Hub and to discuss how the police could support developments if the current bid for Big Lottery funding proves successful.  Community Centre Chairperson Karen Plant was pleased to discover that Dafydd’s vision of a police force more accessible and at the heart of the community struck a chord with the planned Hub concept .  Pictured outside the centre are, from left, Karen Plant, Dafydd Llywelyn, Knighton Mayor Sally Vaughan and management committee members Dave Alker and Liz Reynolds.
