There's great live music heading your way in the Community Centre bar in the coming weeks.
First up, on Sunday November 15th we have a real treat for anyone who loves authentic blues, Americana - or indeed anyone who loves music that makes you grin with happiness. Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton, a 26 year old based in New York, is a multi-instrumentalist blues musician and vocalist, a virtuoso of the banjo IMHO. His musical influences, as this video indicates, are mainly rooted in the early blues from the 1920s and 30s. According to Will Friedwald in the Wall Street Journal, Paxton is “virtually the only music-maker of his generation playing guitar, banjo, piano and violin, among other instruments to fully assimilate the blues idiom of the 1920s and ’30s, the blues of Bessie Smith and Lonnie Johnson.” Tickets, a snip at £10, are available now by phoning 01547-528315 or turn up early! Things kick off around 8.00pm and a good time is absolutely guaranteed.
Then on Friday December 4th, gifted guitarist and singer songwriter Keith James returns to the centre, this time with his "Solid Air Concert", an evening of Keith's own interpretations of songs by two of his own musical heroes, John Martyn and Nick Drake. Fans of these two giants of British music, and there are many of all ages, will not be disappointed by Keith's heartfelt handling of their songs, just as many were impressed by his treatment's of Leonard Cohen's classics when Keith last visited the Community Centre. Again, the evening starts at 8.00pm (doors open 7.30). Tickets are available now from the Tower House Gallery, Knighton, as well as online here
