Last Saturday there was a very special gig at the Centre with stunning live African music and non stop dancing. It was in fact a 60th birthday party for my good wife Karen, Chairperson of the centre's management committee, fan of African sounds and lover of dancing . Invited guests were treated to a night of irresistible Zimbabwean rhythms from London-based band Harare. Judging by the reception the band received there is certainly an appetite in Knighton for more dance-orientated World Music and we certainly hope that the Comm will see more gigs like this in the year ahead. ![]() Harare feature ex-Bhundu Boy Kudaushe Matimba and are shown here on the Comm's temporary stage, which puts the band up close to the dancing and creates a warm atmosphere - even on a frosty December night!

![]() The selection of homemade soups was varied and tasty, the hall looked great with the temporary stage bringing the live acts down close to the audience, the support act and MC did us proud (Hello Mark and Jill from the Rhythm Thieves and Mick, everyone's favourite veg man), and the headline act, Jamie Smith's Mabon were quite brilliant. The audience of over 100 was enthusiastic and many found spaces among the tables to get up and dance. Many said it was the best live music event at the Comm in years! So, a great night and worth all the effort that went into putting it together. Now to plan the next folk night... |
