Rebecca Salter: “Calligraphy of Light”: Art in Hospitals

Rebecca Salter is an abstract artist who lives in London. She studied at Bristol Polytechnic and at Kyoto City University of the Arts in Japan, where she lived for six years.

Rebecca exhibits regularly in London and internationally, and in 2011 she had a major retrospective, into the light of things, at the Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut.

In 2019 Rebecca was elected as the President of the Royal Academy of
Arts, London, the first female President since the Academy was founded
in 1768.

Rebecca believes passionately in the healing powers of the visual arts. In 2006 she was commissioned to redesign the reception area of St George’s Hospital, Tooting. Since then, Salter has created commissioned works for the Haematology Unit at Guy’s, and the
Macmillan Cancer Unit at the Royal Chesterfield Hospital.

Rebecca  will discuss her commissioned work for hospitals and the healing power of art with Gillian Forrester, former Senior Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Yale Center for British Art, USA.
