Knighton Christmas Countdown.

People from various organisations within Knighton have come together & formed a committee, the purpose of which is to bring some Christmas cheer to all those living in and around Knighton.
We are very excited to announce that we now have three projects on the go:
1. Knighton Christmas Countdown - on the same principle as an Advent Calendar we will post an activity or a Christmas related demonstration for children of all ages on our Facebook page or via Zoom daily. The countdown will be launched by the Revd.’s Petra & Kevin bringing you Zoom Nativity season 1 episode 1 of 5 (not to be missed!).
We will be posting a calendar of events ASAP on our Christmas Facebook page.
2. Christmas Memories (Knighton Museum and KINDA) - Luggage labels (kindly donated by The Tower House Café) will be made available to one and all, and special Christmas memories can be captured on the label and shared with others. The labels will be available from Knighton Library, & please return to Julia at The Tower House Café. Some labels will be distributed through organizations and groups.
On Christmas Eve we will be placing them on the Christmas tree at the Clock Tower (kindly donated by Prince & and Pugh) after Christmas, the labels will then for a short time be exhibited in various locations (Churches, Library and The Comm), their final resting place will be in the archive section of Knighton Museum.
3. Knighton Santa Hunt 2020 - after the huge success of the Halloween Trail treasure hunt, the Knighton Santa Hunt 2020 will be running from the 19th - 24th December 2020. The trail commences at the Cenotaph, there will be ten clues to follow and there will be lots of prizes to give away.
If you wish to get involved please email: knightonhubcoordinator@gmail.com

The Knighton Literary Festival October 2019
Over the 4 days 1398 came through the doors with 400 attending author’s talks or workshops. Visitors also enjoyed the market which had a range of interesting and enticing stalls and the activities for children.
This was made possible by the generous help, commitment and support of all of you volunteers, who gave over 275 hours of your time, and set up, took down, baked cakes, ran the café, put up posters and boards, organised, ran activities, entertained with lovely music, did the sound and recordings, donated funds, supported the authors and made sure the days ran smoothly.
Thanks is also due to the Powys Library Service, The Knighton Community Centre Committee, Everyone who donated to the Raffle, Hafren Vets for supporting the Children’s competition, and of course the enthusiastic audience and visitors.
Some of the Feedback comments
“Really Good content and atmosphere. Entertaining and educational. Well done!”
“Very well run, I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw”
“Amazing event, we need more things like this in Knighton”
“Extremely well organised, very interesting and varied. Thank you”
“ Brilliant! Looking forward to next year”

Solar Panel System

Knighton Community Centre now has a solar system up and running, installed by Gwent Energy CIC who worked in appalling weather to make sure work was completed in time to be eligible for the feed-in tariff. Consisting of an array of 72 panels, generating approximately 19,688 kWh every year, the system is going to make significant savings for the centre. Moreover, it is a step in the direction of making Knighton carbon neutral and therefore good news all round.
Funding came from a variety of sources, including the Naturesave Trust, www.naturesavetrust.co.uk/naturesave-trust. The Naturesave Trust is funded by the activities of Naturesave Insurance, the UK’s leading ethical insurance provider for individuals, businesses, charities and community groups.
Michael Harding, from the Community Centre management committee, said: ‘It is wonderful to know that the Community Centre is reducing its dependency on fossil fuels and therefore helping to lower the carbon footprint of our town. The money saved helps the Community Centre to continue to be a hub for local residents, providing services and leisure activities.’

Our New Caretaker
We are very pleased to announce the appointment of our new caretaker, Chris Martin. Chris writes:
'Hi I’m Chris Martin and I’ve recently become Knighton Community Hub’s new caretaker. I made Knighton my home at the end of 1997 and have felt very privileged to be able to live and bring up my family in such a beautiful area. I look forward to making sure Knighton Community Hub remains at the centre of our town and serves the residents well.'
Chris is a member of the Llanfair Singers and also is a volunteer at the Lunch Club and the Thursday Drop In.

New pricing for 2019
The new pricing structure for 2019 has been applied and here is a breakdown of costs. The Community Centre is a charity in itself and at the heart of it, a volunteer led committee who keep the centre running.
We have tried to be fair to all who use the centre and our aim is to hopefully help the charities as well. If you have any queries regarding pricing or bookings please pop into the centre to see either Ceri or Louise.
We look forward to seeing you.
